CHICOPEE - James P. “Jim” Valliere, 75, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life peacefully at home in his sleep. He was born in Laconia, New Hampshire on December 4, 1945, a beloved son of the late Joseph H. and Helen R. (Kelleher) Valliere. He was raised in Ashfield, graduated from Chicopee High School, Class of 1964, and lived in Chicopee for most of his life. He served his country during Vietnam in the United States Army and attained the rank of Private First Class. He was a 20 year Correctional Officer for the Department of Corrections in Somers, Connecticut and retired in 1992. Following retirement, he was a bartender at Stoney’s in South Hadley, as well as the Amvets and the 391, both in Chicopee. He was also a longtime delivery driver for Carey’s Florist in South Hadley. He was a member of the American Legion Post 260 in South Hadley, and the Amvets Post 12 and the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69, both in Chicopee. Jim enjoyed playing pitch at the Colonial and chip and putt at Annie’s with his buddies, Paul, Tom and Shakey. He most especially enjoyed going out to dinner and ordering French Onion Soup with his partner, Eileen. He leaves his longtime partner, Eileen Russis of Chicopee; his three loving brothers, Michael L. Valliere and his wife, Claire, of Chicopee, Charles L. Valliere of Englewood, CO and David D. Valliere and his wife, Suzanne, of Edmond, OK; his loving sister-in-law, Marta Valliere of El Paso, TX; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, numerous friends and extended family members. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph S. Valliere; and his sister, Ann J. Rutledge and her husband, Don. His relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday morning, November 2, 2021 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
