Yvonne Antoinette Jacqueline Heyder passed away peacefully on October 21, 2021 at the age of 100 years old at her home in Ventura with her family at her side. Yvonne was born in Brussels, Belgium May 21, 1921. Her formative years were spent in Brussels, she survived the Nazi occupation where her life experiences help develop her resilient personality. Through friends she met her future husband before the war and after the war they found each other again and rekindled their relationship and were married May 3, 1947 They continued their life adventure and left Belgium in search of the American Dream. They were married 68 years until his passing in 2015.
Together they forged a new path, bought a coffee shop “The Mission Coffee Shop”, they worked hard and from virtually nothing, built a new life together.
Yvonne was an avid reader of everything in print, and as a result of this love of the written word she decided to continue her education and received her Master’s Degree in French Literature from UCSB where she also taught for several years. Her hobbies were stamp collecting, she was an excellent seamstress, loved to knit, and when she was able to she loved to cook and bake. She was the heart of her family, a devoted daughter, a loving wife and mother. She was also a doting grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter Yvonne Glassey, granddaughter Nicole Glassey-Rios and her husband Israel Rios, and great grandsons David and Arthur Rios.
A Rosary will be said on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at 6PM at JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura. In the spirit of her Catholic Christian faith, a Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church on Thursday, October 28, 2021. The Reverend Matthew Miguel will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to your favorite charity.
