Obituary

Barbara May Wick, 90, of East Bridgewater, longtime resident of Pembroke, died on October 19 after a brief illness.

Born in Quincy, the youngest child of Albert and Ethel Andrew, she was educated in the Quincy school system.

She initially worked at Howard Johnson’s in Wollaston and after having children, for a time was a school bus driver in Pembroke. After tiring of disciplining many unruly children, she worked at Ocean Spray Cranberries for 17 years, primarily in the marketing department.

She quickly joined her husband Herb in retirement and spent many years travelling the country in their camper, eventually making it to 49 states (it was not possible to drive the camper to Hawaii). For many years, she and Herb spent winters in Tucson, AZ where for a time her brother Albert was living with his wife Dot. They made many friends in Tucson, while also participating in numerous crafts and games.

Barbara was a highly skilled quilter, knitter and seamstress, as well as a fabulous baker and cook. She made a comfortable home that was always clean and tidy.

A fateful summer day in July of 1947 was the genesis of an amazing romance and a beautiful life with her love Herb (William) Wick, together in total for 74 years, married for 67 of them. They raised three children, Diane White of Taunton, Janice Mullen of Middleboro and Brian Wick of Plympton. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, in addition to many nieces and nephews. She was particularly close to her nephew Bill Tice of Massachusetts and niece Ginny (Virginia) Aguirre of Texas. Barbara was predeceased by her siblings Albert Andrew, Thomas Andrew and Hazel Tice.

As were the wishes of Barbara and Herb, there will be no services until such time when Herb joins Barbara yet again.

Memorial donations can be made in Barbara’s name to All Saints Episcopal Church, 44 Park Avenue, Whitman, MA 02382.
