Obituary

PORTLAND- Elizabeth Anne Ware Bearor passed away peacefully at her residence on Oct. 19, 2021.
Bettye as she liked to be called was born in Waterbury Ct. to Frank E. and Mary E. Ware. When she was young the family moved to Bangor ME. where she attended local schools and graduated from Bangor High School.
While growing up in Bangor and the Castine Area she became a member of the Girl Scouts of America, she spent many of her summers at Camp Natarswi where she developed a love for the outdoors to include canoeing, and hiking. She canoed most of the lakes in that region and hiked up Mt. Katahdin 19 times. She often reminisced of these exploits to friends and family.
After Graduating High School Bettye attended the Sheppard Gill School of Practical Nursing in Boston Massachusetts and earned her LPN.
Bettye married Richard Bearor and together they raised a family in the Deering Center area of Portland. They had three children, Bonnie, Kevin, Russell.
In the early years, she was a stay-at-home mother, then became a teacher’s aide in the Portland School District. She so enjoyed her time with the girls’ scouts that she volunteered at several different girl scout camps as a camp nurse. These included Camp Soci in Yarmouth Me. Camp Pondicherry in Bridgton Me. She also volunteered as squadron nurse for the Portland Maine Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol. She greatly enjoyed this time as she got to fly and become a search and rescue spotter, she enjoyed the many friendships she developed over the years in these many positions. She also enjoyed her time working in the local nursing homes as a charge nurse.
Bettye’s hobbies included camping, canoeing, knitting, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Bettye was pre-deceased by her parent’s Frank E. Ware and Mary Ware Milner, her Brother Theodore Ware, husband Richard L. Bearor, daughter Bonnie E. Starkey, granddaughter Victoria R. Bearor, and grandson Zachary M. Bearor.
She is survived by brother Russell L. Ware of North Charleston, South Carolina, son Kevin T. Bearor of Island Falls ME., son Russell L. Bearor of Waterboro ME. She has 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, also many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at 6 PM Friday October 29, 2021 at the Royal Ridge Church of God, 6 Royal Ridge Dr. Scarborough Me. All are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you support your local girl scout troop through the purchase of girl scout cookies in remembrance of Bettye, or through a donation to your local Girl Scout Council or to the Abnaki Girl Scout Council, or Kennebec Girl Scout Council.
