Obituary




Richard D. "Dick" Barry, lifelong resident of Medford, passed away on Thursday, October 21st. He was 93. Born in Cambridge he was the cherished son of the late Francis and Frances (Donaghe) Barry. Richard enlisted in the United States Navy in the spring of 1945, from Boston, serving during the WWII War, before being honorably discharged in 1949.

Richard had an exemplary work ethic. As an owner of a plumbing business; he was able to show his workmanship and dedication to each and every one of his customers. Richard put himself through college and received his license to become a teacher. He spent many nights teaching adults at the Medford Vocational High School. Richard established many lifelong relationships with his students; they often thanked him for helping them pave their paths to success. He spent 69 years serving in the civil service department before retiring. He later became the custodian at the Melrose Library, which he absolutely loved.

Richard enjoyed spending time with his family. Richard and Marie loved to take all of their children camping on the weekends. When Richard was not spending time with his family. He was an active member of the Singing Grandfathers Club of Alrington. Richard enjoyed visiting local nursing homes and performing for the residents.

Richard was the beloved husband of 70 years to the late Marie C. (Moskaluk) Barry. He was the devoted father of Lynn M. Colbert and her husband Eddie of Malden, and Patricia A. Barry of Medford. He was the loving Grampa of Christine Cerrato and her husband James of Malden, and Amy Gosnell and her husband Luke of Lynn, and the caring Great Grandpa of Mckenzie Cerrato of Malden.

Funeral from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Wednesday at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours from Tuesday 4 – 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Late WWII Navy Veteran.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Richards name to a charity of one’s choice.
