Obituary

PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – Henry R. Durocher, 88, of Port Charlotte, Florida and a former longtime resident of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at the Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Englewood, surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife. He was born in Holyoke on September 13, 1933, a beloved son of the late Henry L. and Blanche (Dubois) Durocher. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated from the former Cathedral High School in Springfield and lived in Aldenville for many years before moving to Pine Valley Plantation in Belchertown. Henry and his wife, Cecile, were snowbirds for many years and in 2019 moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. He served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed as a Custodian for the City of Chicopee and was last employed at the Lambert – Lavoie Elementary School in Chicopee. He previously worked as a milkman for the H.P. Hood Company. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and currently a communicant of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Port Charlotte. Henry was a former member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337 and a former President and Youth Baseball Coach of the Aldenville Junior Athletic Club (AJAC). In 1980, he coached the City and Tournament Champions 12-14 Baseball Team. Henry was an avid golfer and sports fan and a lifetime Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Cecile M. (Boileau) Durocher. They were married on June 1, 1957 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. He also leaves his four loving children, David H. Durocher and his wife, Deborah, of Chicopee, James R. Durocher and his wife, Teresa, of Falmouth, John L. Durocher and his wife, Maureen, of Amherst and Richard R. Durocher and his wife, Lorie, of Averill Park, NY; his six cherished grandchildren, Michael Durocher and his wife, Alisha, Matthew Durocher and his partner, Ashley, Andrew Durocher and his wife, Ligquian, Amanda Durocher and her partner, Evan, Richard Durocher Jr., and Olivia Durocher; his two cherished great-grandsons, Oliver Durocher and William Durocher; his three dear sisters-in-law, Claire Minarek of South Carolina, Simone Potvin and her husband, Raymond, and Maxine Boileau, all of Chicopee; his dear brother in law, Richard Duval of California; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sister, Eunice Burl and her husband, Robert; his dear brother in law, Raymond Boileau; and his two dear sisters in law, Yvette Charland and Jeannette Duval. His Funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Masks are recommended for his services.
