Born in Columbia, South Carolina, he moved to Florida with his family in 1986 and then moved to Alapaha for 10 years, returning to Florida in 2015.
Growing up his first job was as a soda jerk, but he later went on to become a master electrician. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, hunting, and watching football.
Shorty was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Bobbie; his son, Derril; his twin brother, Curly; brothers Elvis, Harry, James and Robert (Buddy); his sister, Mattie; and his granddaughter, Kayla.
Shorty is survived by two daughters, Sheila (Tom), Cherryl (Brian); one brother, Donald; one sister, Mary; one grandchild, Blane; and four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Scarlett, Aryanna and Bryanna.
