He worked many jobs such as a fisherman, painter, drywaller, carpenter and plumber until 1976 when he went to work for the town of Provincetown until he retired in 2000 after 24 years. Gus moved with his wife and son to North Truro, MA in 1987 where they lived until 2016. He was predeceased by one half brother, Charles Landry, two half-sisters, Marjorie Blackwell and Shirley Bortz, three brothers, Henry Martin, Kenneth C. Martin, and Robert J. Martin, and two sisters Helen Martin and Lillian V. Butler.

Gus always liked to say to his friends that “life is a series of hellos and goodbyes and everything in the middle is a bonus, the good, the hopes and the sorrows, and always if you want to do something nice for someone and don’t know what, just say hello and smile.” He also wanted to say, “To all my AA friends, remember there is no ‘graduation’, but the God given time to leave life with sobriety that God has granted”.

Burial will be private at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Provincetown, MA.
