Obituary

Alana M. (Barry) Converse, 75, of Medway died peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the mother of the late John R. Converse who passed away in 2007.

She is survived by her three sons, Jeff Converse and his wife Diane of Medway, Jason Converse and his wife Leisa of Bellingham and Jared Converse of Medway, and three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sean and Lily.

Born in Boston on August 15, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn (Maloof) Barry.

Alana was a resident of Medway since 1966. She grew up in West Roxbury and graduated from Roslindale High School.

Alana was a hardworking single mother who raised her four sons working as a hairdresser in her home for friends by day and waitressing at night.

Alana “Nanny” cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, her greatest achievement. A lifelong New England sports fan, but most proud of being a Medway Mustang Football, Baseball and Basketball fan, always supporting her children, grandchildren, and their friends for over 40 years.

Alana cherished her relationships with her friends and the friends of her four boys who would always find the door open and the house filled with love and laughter at 21 Meadow Road.

Alana’s hobbies included reading, working outdoors in her garden, and was an active volunteer to help others in need.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway on Thursday, October 21 at Noon.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Jimmy Fund), P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
