GRANBY – Joseph M. Lajoie, 95, of Granby, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 14, 2021. He passed into Eternal Life at Renaissance Manor on Cabot in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on December 24, 1925, a beloved son of the late Joseph Lajoie and Aldina (Masse) Lajoie Mochon. He was raised in Granby where he resided for most of his life. He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy and attained the rank of Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class. He received the American Area Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the Ruptured Duck Award, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a Rural Carrier in Belchertown and a Clerk in Granby for the United States Postal Service. He served his community of Granby in many capacities including: Constable, Police Officer, Firefighter, Ambulance Driver, and Cemetery Commission. He was the longtime Manager of the Evergreens Club in Granby. Joe was a life-member of the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044, a member of the Joseph F. Maguire Assembly of the Knights of Columbus, the Holyoke Lodge of Elks 902, the Blind Veterans Association, a two-time Commander and one of the founding members of the American Legion Post 266 of Granby, and a member of the Massachusetts LST Association. In the late 1940s, he helped to build Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (IHMC) in Granby where he was a lifetime communicant and also a member of the IHMC Men’s & Women’s Club and the Parish Council. Among all of his accomplishments in life, he was probably most proud of receiving his honorary diploma from South Hadley High School which was given to several World War II Veterans who had left school to serve during the war. Most of all, he was a hard working man who would do anything to help out his children and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, M. Cecile (Roy) Lajoie. They were married on June 27, 1953 in the Saint Joan of Arc Chapel in Aldenville and were blessed with over 67 years of happiness together. He leaves his three loving children, Michael “Mike” Lajoie and his wife, Karen, of Chicopee, Teresa “Terry” Lajoie of Granby and James “Jim” Lajoie and his wife, Missy, of South Hadley; his nine cherished grandchildren, Amy Lajoie, Adam Lajoie and his companion, Courtney Davis, Alyssa Lajoie and her companion, Charlie Edgette, Joseph Lajoie and his wife, Jineane, Corey Lajoie and his wife, Lydia, Heather Bailly and her husband, Jon, Katelynn Lajoie, Matthew Lajoie and Nicholas Lajoie; his seven cherished great-grandchildren, Morgan Lajoie, Ryder Lajoie, Kylie Lajoie, Lorna Lajoie, Collin Lajoie, Madison Bailly and Emma Bailly; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Lajoie and Roy families. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his three dear sisters, Rita Dugre and her husband, George, Cecile Lindsay and her husband, Janvier, and Theresa Lajoie; his two dear brothers-in-law, Maurice “Moo” Roy and Ronald “Joe” Roy and his wife, Luisa; and his three dear sisters-in-law, Jeanine Woolsey and her husband, Robert, Helen Balthazard and Aline Fontaine and her husband, Gerald “Jim”. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Liturgy of Christian Burial on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 256 State Street, Granby, MA 01033. His Burial will follow the Mass at West Street Cemetery, 90 West Street, Granby, MA 01033. There are no visiting hours at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
