Cynthia D. Fontes, of Woburn passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 10, 2021, at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. She was 52. Cynthia was the beloved wife of Joseph S. Fontes and together they shared 18 years of marriage. Born in Tyler, Texas, Cynthia was the daughter of Sondra J. (Knight) Ivy and the late Jessie N. Ivy.
Cynthia was raised and educated in Texas and was a graduate of the Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler Texas. She furthered her education and held an Associates Certification in Insurance Underwriting. She worked as an insurance underwriter for more than twenty years. Cynthia was also a talented baker and enjoyed sharing her baking delights with family and friends. She was an avid fan of the New England Patriots and was a true coffee connoisseur. She will fondly be remembered for her kindness and fun loving personality.
Cynthia is survived by her children, Justin Grooms of Woburn, Haylie Grooms of Woburn and Codye Grooms of Pennsylvania. She was the loving grandmother of Jaidyn Watson, Sadie and Presley Grooms. Cherished sister of Sheri Bailey of Texas. Daughter-in-law of Joseph and Marie Fontes of Woburn. Sister-in-law of Michelle and John Barisano of Woburn and loving aunt to Brooklyn and Matthew Barisano.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Tuesday, October 19th, from 4 to 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service starting at 7 p.m. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Cynthia's memory to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Sixth Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
