Obituary

MANCHESTER - Charles Peter MacLellan, known as Peter, died unexpectedly of medical causes at his home on Monday, October 11, 2021 at the age of 57.

A third-generation resident, Peter proudly described himself as “Manchester born, Manchester bred.” He attended Manchester public schools, the Holderness School, the University of New Hampshire, and New Hampshire Technical Institute. He was the owner of the local family businesses, Amoskeag News Agency and MacLellan News Agency, until 2001, when he began his second career as a software developer. He lived in Manchester’s North End for the entirety of his life, and it is where he and his former spouse, Elizabeth Hoyt MacLellan, raised their three children, Amanda, George, and Peter Nathaniel (Nate), all who still call Manchester home.

Peter was a vibrant soul with many passions including music, the White Mountains, Boston sports teams, and the many dogs he loved to walk at Dorrs Pond throughout his life. He was a dedicated New Hampshire Democrat, who couldn’t resist rooting for an underdog and never missed an opportunity to house a campaign volunteer or meet a candidate. He felt a deep connection to Rye Beach, where he loved to body surf and walk year round, even in the winter months.

Peter was the son of George R. MacLellan and Jacqueline B. MacLellan of Manchester. In addition to his three children and former spouse, he is also survived by his three sisters: Mary E. MacLellan of Aptos, CA, Jacqueline MacLellan Russell of Warwick, RI, and Susan C. MacLellan of Merritt Island, FL. Peter’s beloved family extends to his nieces and nephews, dozens of cousins, and friends he made and stayed loyal to from all stages of his winding life. He will be remembered by friends and family across continents as an exuberant storyteller with remarkable wit and infinite kindness, who lived by the words of Jerry Garcia: Let there be songs to fill the air.
