Obituary

Leonard Evert Mellberg, research physicist, of South Dartmouth, MA, died peacefully on October 10, 2021, at the age of 85, after a long inspirational life that changed the fabric of our lives worldwide, our safety, especially the oceans, ocean life and the environment. He is survived by his wife, Pamela N. Mellberg, two daughters, Rev. Dr. Lesly Mellberg and her partner Rev. Dr. Kathy Gayoski of Rochester, MA and Michele Mellberg of Nokomis, FL, stepson David Narbeth, his wife, Tracy Narbeth, grandson Liam Narbeth of Uxbridge, MA, granddaughter Marie Mellberg and numerous other family members and grandchildren.

He served in the US Army Occupation Forces in Germany, Berlin/Esslingen, 1955-1956. He was a research physicist for the Department of the US Navy for 30 years. He retired as a Chief Scientist at the Science Application International Corporation, La Jolla, CA. A biography is in the publication, Marquis Who's Who in the World. He sang for years in the Swedish Choir preforming stateside and internationally. He enjoyed laughter, storytelling, singing and listening to music, poetry, reading, hiking, and skiing. He also belonged to AMC for 47 years and hiked numerous trails throughout the world.
