Mr. George T. Stone Sr. a longtime resident of Woburn peacefully passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was 87 years old. George was the beloved husband for 63 years of Rita A. (McLaughlin) Stone. Born in Boston he was the son of the late George and Florence (Driscoll) Stone.
George's parents passed away when he was a young child. He was lovingly cared for and lived with many relatives in his earlier days. George was a 1951 graduate of Medford High School. He met Rita at Hampton Beach where it all began, they soon married and settled in Woburn where together they started their family. George will fondly be remembered for his strong work ethic and for over forty years he worked as a lineman with Mass Electric and later with National Grid prior to his retirement. George was a homebody and very proud if his Irish heritage. He was a great provider and family man as well as a talented cook. He was happiest at home surrounded by family and those he loved. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife Rita, George is survived by his children, George Stone Jr. of Haverhill, Susan Stone of Beverly, Dennis Stone and his wife Denise of Woburn, Carolyn Stone of Newburyport, and Jeffrey Stone and his wife Kimberly of Woburn. He was the cherished "Gampa" of Emily, Courtney, Olivia, Elyse, Chad, Jessica, Michael, Mitch, Brett, Tegan, and Great "Gampa" of Riley. Brother of the late Muriel Goggin and Joan Shea.
Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Thursday, October 14th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass celebrated in St. Charles Catholic Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, from 3 to 7 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in George's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, New England Chapter, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley, MA 02481.
