Jose F. Lescay of Winthrop, MA passed away peacefully at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center on October 8, 2021. Jose was 90 years old. Jose was the beloved husband of the late Lorraine (Dunshee) Lescay, son of the late Rosario Farinas Novo and Ernesto Lescay Saboya. Devoted father of Rita Lescay Webb and her husband Tim Webb of Narragansett, RI and George Lescay of Maine. Adored grandfather of Darylle Sheehan and her husband Tim Allard, Robert Sheehan Jr, Rebecca Salvaggio, George Lescay, and the late Rayleen Lescay. Jose was cherished by his many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews in Cuba and Florida. Survived by sisters Charito, Caridad, and Julia of Havana, Cuba.
Jose, known as Pepi to his friends and family, came to the US from Cuba for his work with thoroughbred horses and remained here to marry his love and start a family. Working mostly at Suffolk Downs, he eventually had the winningest stable by percentage for a trainer. Pepi had a great deal of empathy for other immigrants who came to this country with nothing. He always gave of himself to help them flourish and make their way to becoming US citizens. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to MIRA, the Mass Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition.
