Roy H. Upham, 86, of Hooksett, NH died April 11, 2006 at the Concord Regional Hospice House after a period of declining health.
He was born in Roxbury, MA, on February 9, 1920, the son of Roy D. and Alice C. (Gordon) Upham. He was educated in the Hingham, MA school system and received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Boston College.
During WWII, he served in the US Army.
As a professor of chemistry at Saint Anselm College for nearly 40 years, Professor Upham was a devoted teacher who spent countless hours with his students. He loved teaching, spending time with his family and traveling.
Mr. Upham was a member of the New England Association of Chemistry Teachers (NEACT) and the Hooksettites. He also was active with the Cursillo Movement.
Members of his family include his wife of 61 years, Aurie (Duplin) Upham of Hooksett, NH; their children, Alice and Michael Dunfey of Manchester, NH, Charles and Pat Upham of Chichester, NH, Jim and Kathy Upham, formerly of Goffstown, NH, now of Brunswick, GA, Barbara and David Foster of Northfield, NH, William Upham and Frances Nutter-Upham of Nashua, NH, Betty and David Griffin of Gorham, NH, Mary Upham and Mike Gualtieri of Ordell, NJ, Meg and David Pfalzgraf of Londonderry, NH; 24 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; step-sisters, Helen White and Patricia Kelley and step-brother Robert McGrory, all of Massachusetts.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in the Abbey Church at Saint Anselm College on Tuesday April 18, 2006. Interment was in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
