James E. “Tippy” McCann, 85, of Trimtown Road, Scituate, died Monday, October 4, 2021 at his home. He was the devoted husband of the late Margaret "Peggy" (White) McCann. They had been married for 61 years before her death in 2019.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late John and Veronica (Malone) McCann. He had lived in Scituate for over 60 years. He was an active leader in the town’s sporting events as coach, umpire and Scituate Booster Club President organizing meatball sub sales at the Arts Festival and coffee and hot dogs during football seasons.
Jim had worked for the Narragansett Brewery for 27 years before retiring from Amscan, Inc in 1998. He spent his retirement as the proud Quartermaster of the Nelson-Mack VFW #4651 Post in Cranston.
He leaves a loving family of four sons, James, and wife Colleen, of Scituate, Daniel, and wife Sherry, of Scituate, Stephen of West Warwick, Peter of Scituate; two daughters, Julie Roy and husband, Dennis of Natick MA, and Amy McCann and husband, Sean Chen of Southborough, MA; eight grandchildren: Timothy, Kayleigh, Megan, Mackenzie, Matthew, Kelsey, Brandon and Bridget and two great-grandchildren Ruby and Callum. He was the brother of Geraldine Fitzpatrick of North Kingston and Frank McCann of Narragansett and brother of the late John McCann, Jr. and Patricia Tevyaw. He relished his family parties with fellow Aunts, Uncles, and the clan of numerous nieces and nephews galore, from the 4th of July, to beach house rentals, to trips to the Lake, to annual Christmas parties. He will be missed.
His funeral will be held Friday, October 8th at 9am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Joseph Church, 144 Danielson Pike, Scituate. Visitation Thursday 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars
