Robert A. “Bob” Tavares, 81, of Davie, Florida, formerly of New Bedford, passed away after a brief illness on September 4, 2021. Born and raised in New Bedford, he was the son of the late John and Mary Tavares.
Papa is survived by his wife Edna of 42 years. He leaves behind his children, Patricia Hopkins and her husband George, Tracy Tavares and her partner Tom, Rob Tavares and his wife April, Cheryl Foisy and her partner Bobby, Alison and her partner Ed, and Jessica and her partner Cory. He also survived by his sister Lillian Jerome; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Bob worked as a bus driver, as a captain on a yacht, at Building 19, and at MAP Insulation. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and loved being on the water. His interests included Karaoke and taking his family and friends out for great adventures on his boat.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 12:30 PM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford.
