Obituary

WORCESTER___Peter M. Klejna, 89, of Worcester, died Thursday September 30, 2021 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Ann Bernadette (Shaughnessy) Klejna. He also leaves Ann’s 30 nieces and nephews and in particular Ann’s niece, Kathleen R. (Shaughnessy) Cashin and her husband Michael and their daughters Meghan and Mollie. Nieces and nephews reach across the United States, England & Ireland. He was born in Worcester, the son of Peter A. and Monica C. (Morawski) Klejna. Peter attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated from St. Mary’s High School as class valedictorian.

From age 13 he worked part time in a Pharmacy on Millbury St., then worked at Main South Pharmacy in Webster Square. After graduation he went to Wisconsin and worked for relatives in the building industry. In October of 1952 he joined the U.S. Army. His basic training was at Ft. Dix, NJ. He then shipped out to Korea. In 1954 he had 1 more year to serve and was sent to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. His assignment there was as a Weapons Instructor and he was promoted to Sergeant First Class. After his 3 year enlistment was up he was honorably discharged from service in the U.S. Army and returned home to Worcester.

At the outset of the computer age, Peter was employed by Hobbs Manufacturing Company and started his long road in the computer field. He was then employed by Coppus Engineering which later became Tuthill Corporation. Peter would take advanced course at Clark and the I.B.M. School of Computers. After many years he retired to enjoy his family, home and travel. He was a member of St. George’s Church. Peter was skilled in carpentry, electrical and flooring work which was reflected throughout his home and he was meticulous with his yard and landscape.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 from HENRY - DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward St, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. George Church, 38 Brattle St. Burial with military honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday October 4, 2021 from 6 :00 to 8:00 PM.
