Obituary

MANCHESTER, CT: Mary Elizabeth “Liz” (Rodman) Stevens was liberated from her body on September 24, 2021 after a steady decline due to dementia.
Liz lived a full life. She grew up in Tarrytown, NY and married Bill Upjohn with whom she had four children in New York to Tacoma, WA to Enfield, CT.
She graduated from an LPN Program as a single mom of four and after working at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT for a few years, she married Ray Stevens in 1976.
Liz continued to live a rewarding, benevolent life with her family in the Cochituate area of Wayland. She worked as a nurse at Weston Manor Convalescent Home and volunteered at the Campion Center, Home for Jesuits in Weston.
She then assisted her husband Ray with his business balancing the books and working side by side. Liz kept busy and thriving by balancing many ventures through her life. She was an integral part of her church, Community United Methodist Church in Cochituate. She volunteered countless hours at feeding stations at Rosie’s Place and Sunday’s Bread in Boston. She hosted exchange students and developed strong, long term friendships with people who were immigrating to this country.
Liz will be remembered and missed by many friends and family. She leaves sons, daughter, step-sons & step-daughter and their spouses and partners: Richard Upjohn and Beth Anne Vance of MA; Bill and Beth Upjohn; Tom and Peggy Upjohn and Ann and Bill Reimels all of Manchester, CT. Also Lincoln Stevens; Loring Stevens and Linda Cox; David and Betty Stevens and Dorothy and Scott Knight. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond “Ray” Stevens, her step-son Andy Stevens and her grandson Travis.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Crossroads Community Cathedral, 1492 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT. A time of visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at Lakeview Cemetery, 80 Commonwealth Road (Rt. 30), Cochituate Village, Wayland.
