Lucinda M. (Rodrigues) Gallela (aka Amrit Kaur Khalsa), age 77, passed away on 16 Sep 2021 at Baystate Medical Center. She was born on 9 Feb 1944 in Chicopee, a daughter of the late Ramiro and Demilia (Traquina) Rodrigues. Lucinda earned her Master’s Degree in education; in addition to several specialized certifications in art instruction, special education, and a variety of holistic and healing practices. In her early career, Lucinda worked as a substitute teacher for K-12 and as a traveling art teacher. Most of the rest of her career was spent as a special education teacher in everything from one-on-one and classroom instruction to life skills and job instruction. Lucinda also practiced and taught the healing arts, yoga, and other health and holistic life practices. She lived in AK, NM, and MA; enjoying some of the most beautiful parts of the US. Lucinda was deeply spiritual, practicing, teaching, and supporting several spiritual practices including Catholicism and Sikhism. A generous, insightful, and caring person, she looked to help and support anyone who needed it. She is survived by her beloved son Anthony J. Gallela and his wife Nicole of PA; both of whom deeply thank Lucinda's cancer doctor, Dr. Myers, the staff at Baystate (thank you, Ana), her cousin "Connie," and especially her amazing friend and caregiver, Bozina. Her ashes will be buried at the roots of a new king hawthorn tree at Wildwood Cemetery in Amherst, MA on 5 Oct 2021 at 3 p.m. The Grise Funeral Home and the family are entrusted with arrangements.
