It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marina Akers, our loving and devoted mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all whose lives she touched. On September 26, 2021 Marina left us due to complications of Covid -19 virus. She was born August 14, 1947, in the Belmont suburb of Trinidad and Tobago, the youngest daughter of the late Gwendolyn and David Grant.
At the age of 21 with her sister by her side she decided to continue her education in England. After her graduation from Lewisham group of Hospital, Grove Park. Marina earned her nursing degree and began her career there. Living in England for 10 years, she decided to reunite with her family in the United States. Following a brief time in New York she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts to start a family.
In the following years she found her passion for caring for the geriatric population. She began and provided care at Mary Murphy Nursing Home and then eventually having a 15 year career at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital.
Marina was a devoted mother and nana to her grandsons. She was blessed with a green thumb and a great cooking and baking skills. She loved to feed others and always greeted others with a welcoming opened arms. .She was a child of God and a member of the Children of St. Ann Spiritual Baptist Church.
Marina was predeceased by her siblings, Barbara Grant, Ian Grant, Sr., Wilfred Grant, and Clyde Grant. She is survived by her husband Kenneth Akers, her daughters Charlene Akers- Edwards, Jeannette Akers, her son-in-law Charles: grandsons Malachi Myrthil and Adonis Edwards: her siblings Agnes Grant, David Grant, and Talbot: her sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be Thursday October 7, 2021 from 6-8 PM and a service will be Friday October 8, 2021 at 10 AM in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home located at 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, Ma. Burial will be immediately following the service in Oaklawn Cemetery located at 427 Cummins Highway, Roslindale, Ma.
