Laverne Ruzbasan, of Groton, Connecticut, formally of Winsted, passed away peacefully in her home on September 24, 2021. Laverne was born on August 25, 1940, in Winsted to Edward A. Machowski and Alice L. Dupont, both of Winchester, CT. Educated in local schools, Laverne became a hairdresser and worked at many other occupations which made her a very skilled and sought-after employee. She retired from Winsted Precision Ball Corporation (Schaeffler Group) where Laverne was employed as a high-quality bearing ball inspector, providing inspection services for military-grade bearing components which were used in the defense of our great country. Laverne was a regular communicant of St. Joseph’s Parish in Winsted.
Laverne is survived by two sons, Daniel and his wife Mary of Fort Myers, Florida and Darron of Groton, Connecticut; a brother, Edward Machowski and his wife Sarah of Norfolk, Connecticut and a sister, Jeanne Andrews of Ohio. Another sister, Dale Colella, predeceased Laverne in 2009. Grandsons include Corey Carpenter and Ryan Ruzbasan. Nieces include Gina Rubdie of Ohio and Rachel Asselin of Connecticut. Nephews include Brian Asselin of Florida, Marc Asselin of Connecticut, Terry Asselin of Connecticut and Alexander Machowski of Connecticut.
Laverne’s most joyous loves in life were Darron’s sons Corey and Ryan. They provided Laverne and her family with boundless joy over the years. Laverne also loved flowers and she cultivated numerous varieties in her home.
A graveside service will be held at the Winchester Center Cemetery on Saturday, October 23, at 10:30am. Internment of her cremains will follow in the Dupont family plot. All are welcome to attend.
A very quiet and private woman, Laverne touched countless numbers of people for the better with her depth, compassion, gentleness and caring. It is the hope of her sons that their mother’s passing brings joyous memories to all who were touched in some way by her. Her sons ask that those who knew Laverne please perform a kind act for someone in remembrance of the generous and caring spirit of their mother, Laverne Ruzbasan.
