Stephen W. “Steve” Rybolt, 76, of Anderson, passed away on September 27, 2021 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a major stroke.
He was born on November 13, 1944, in Anderson, the son of Hansel and Frances (Wright) Rybolt. Steve was a 1962 graduate of Madison Heights High School, and a graduate of Ball State with a degree in Education and also received his masters degree from Ball State. While at Ball State, Steve participated in cross country and track.
Steve taught History at Madison Heights High School, later Anderson High School for 35 years. He coached cross country and track at Madison Heights. He also enjoyed biking and was a member of Anderson Spoke and Wheel, Delaware County Cycling Club, and the Central Indiana Bicycle Association, and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Steve’s other interests included reading, woodworking, mowing and yard work. He was a Punster extraordinaire!
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Kay (Davis ) Rybolt; a daughter, Cynthia Kadenge of Iowa; sister, Arlena Wood of Indianapolis; brother-in-law, Charley (Anna)Talbert of Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews , Kendra Wood, Kendall (Karen) Wood all of Indianapolis, Kevin (Bonnie) Wood of Colorado, Meredith (Andrew) Heil of Pennsylvania, Peter (Devin) Talbert of North Carolina; several great nieces and nephews; grand dogs, Tembo and Bella.
Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Madonna Talbert, and son-in-law, Nya Kadenge.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at 11 AM at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service With Pastor Shelly Stottlemyer of Madison Park Church of God officiating. Attendees will have the opportunity to share a memory of Steve. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 from 4-7 PM at the funeral home.
The family prefers that all of those attending the visitation and service wear a mask at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given to Rock Steady Boxing or Animal Protection League.
