Beverly
Douglas Robert Canney, 51, of Beverly, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital. He was born in Salem to Diane M. (Pare) Canney and George T. Canney on August 6, 1970.
Doug graduated from Salem High School in 1989, where he played Baseball, Football and Basketball. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 1989 and is a member of the Salem High Athletic Hall of Fame. Doug worked as a commercial fisherman for longtime Captain and friend, Phil Powell for many years. He also captained his own vessel, the ‘Lady Di”.
Doug enjoyed all outdoor activities. He loved his family and is remembered by his closest friends as kind, good-hearted, but strong and determined. People wanted to be with him as he was so full of life. Doug was always willing to help, just a phone call away.If Doug had a contest against King Kong, Godzilla, and the Hulk, I would put a wager on Doug. Doug would find a way to win, that is the cloth he was cut from.

Doug is survived by his mother. Diane M. Canney of Bradford, his father George T. Canney and his wife Stella of Salem, his brother, Mathew W. Canney and his wife Audrey of Valrico, FL, and their sons, Alexander and Ian Canney, His maternal auntie Janine Pare and Uncle Ronald Pare and his wife Elaine and their sons, David and Mark, and his devoted friend and companion, Mellissa Wallace of Beverly, as well as cousins Justin and Jacob Pare.
Doug also is survived by his paternal aunts and uncles; Bonnie Canney, Kathy Canney, Carolyn Blain, Paula Milligan, Priscilla and Rich Buonfiglio, Elizabeth and William Coombes, Claire and Dan Boutilier, Susan and Tom Richardson, as well as his paternal cousins; Moe, Chuck, Jeff, Barbara, Greg, Jeremy, Jessica, Ryan, Amanda, Kristin, Jonathan, Nathan, Ian and Andrew.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Lucien and Lina Pare, uncle Robert and wife Audrey Pare, cousin Andrew Pare, also his paternal grandparents, George and Elizabeth Canney, uncles, Donald and William Canney, aunts, Ellen Canney, Cynthia Hardy and cousin Deborah Seegar.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [ Route 114 / 1-A ] Salem on Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. All other services will be private. Salem requires protective face coverings for indoors. Social distancing indoors is required.
