Rose Marie "Jargie" Sanchez, 74, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
Born in Acushnet, daughter of the late August Vieira and Clara Rose (Sanchez) Pontes, she lived in New Bedford most of her life.
Rose enjoyed singing, sewing, oil painting, baking and cooking. She loved spending time with her family. She was a foster mother for many years, caring for 25 children. Rose had a heart of gold and would help anybody who needed it.
Rose worked as a respiratory therapist at St. Luke's Hospital for 35 years. Her co-workers affectionately called her "Rosebud".
Survivors include her daughters, Maureen M. Sanchez and Marie Rose Tavares, both of New Bedford; siblings, Paul, David, Joseph, Theresa, Anna, and Rebecca Pontes; a granddaughter, Breanne Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Jamiel Tavares, Jezel Rose Tavares, Desaraé Rose Williams, Zen and Zion Sanchez, and Niya Pho; and many Godchildren; nephews; nieces; and cousins.
Her funeral will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 8AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. A gathering after the funeral will held at the United House of Prayer, masks required. Please enter through the door located on Mill Street. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Thursday, September 30, 2021 from 4-8 PM.
