Marie Leonard (nee Sulitka) was born in Avoca, PA to her loving parents, Catherine and Joseph Sulitka. She enjoyed special times with her sisters and cousins. After high school graduation, Marie left the small town for her career in nursing. Marie went to City Hospital in Baltimore where she received her LPN. While there, she met the love of her life, the late James "Willie" Leonard. They married in June, 1950 and raised three children, Kathi, Jim, and Judy. Marie was the consummate caregiver. She spent much of her career at Good Samaritan Hospital. When family needed her, she cared for them with a smile. She later provided loving in-home care to many patients and their families. She loved her friends and neighbors. Marie often provided peach cakes, sauer beef and dumplings, and Rueban sandwiches to all. Her macaroni and cheese casserole is still the family favorite. She loved bringing pizza to the grandchildren. Marie loved her faith and her family. Once retired, Marie enjoyed travel and shopping.
Marie is survived by her children, Kathi (Ken Thompson), Jim Leonard (Peggy McGowan) and Judy ( Larry Douglas). She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her sister Patricia Sulitka Welch and husband Joseph, her sister the late Carol Sulitka Gibson and husband Walter, as well as many relatives and friends.
