James J. Shimo, 65, of Dickson City, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at Pearsall Heart Hospital in Wilkes-Barre.
Born Nov. 3, 1955, to the late Francis A. Shimo and Mary Dorothy Butler, Jim was a graduate of Bishop Klonowski class of 1974. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1981-1997. He received numerous military medals. After retirement, he proudly served on the honor guard for Veterans of Foreign Wars Shopa Davey Post 6082 and the Herbert Clark Post 180 Throop American Legion Post. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies and the Boston Celtics. He was always there to help out his friends and family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Tina; daughters, Jessica Boynton and husband, Michael; Caron Shimo; and Mary Dorothy Luchansky and husband, John; grandchildren, Kymberlee, Veronica, Madlyn, Bronson and Jackson; great-grandchildren, Robert and Charlotte. Also surviving are brothers, Jack and wife, Donna; Frank and wife, Carol; sisters, Peggy Evanitsky, Betty Shimo; Joan Klein and husband, David; Mary Rose Daniels and husband, Paul; sister-in-law, Pamela Shimo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick, on May 15, 2021.
Friends may call Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Michael P. Glinksy Funeral Home Inc., 129 Grant St., Olyphant, Pa. Mass will be conducted Thursday, Sept. 30, at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Peckville. Interment with military honors will be held Friday, Oct. 1, in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to amvets.org.
