Raymond R. Mason, Sr., 77, of Worcester, died Thursday, September 23rd at home with his loving family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cecelia M. (Powlics) Mason; two sons, Raymond R. Mason, Jr. and his wife, Michelle and Robert J. Mason and his wife, Heather all of Worcester; his daughter-in-law, Kelly Mason; two brothers, George Mason of South Carolina and Donald Mason and his wife, Cindy of Circle, GA; two sisters, Grace Roseland of Sutton and Linda Conley and her husband, Steven of Cherry Valley; four grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Amber, and Makenna Mason and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son, Richard S. Mason in 2016.
He was born in Worcester, the son of Earl and Virginia (Nelson) Mason. Ray proudly served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. He had been employed by the WRTA for 40 years retiring as a foreman. He had been a union representative and member of Local 22, Amalgamated Transit Union, the American Legion, Post 0443, Disabled American Veterans, and was active in many area veterans groups. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and active with his wife in the church's Operation Ranger Rosary and had also coached baseball in the James O'Brien Little League. His greatest joy was spending time at the pool with his family and especially his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who loved and knew him.
His funeral is Monday, September 27th with his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. His calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 26th from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. at O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Blessed Sacrament Church or to the Disabled American Veterans.
