Dale E. Simmons, 74, of Florida, formerly of New Bedford, died August 14, 2021.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Everett R. and Ruth (Sampson) Simmons.
Dale enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1964 and served for 28 years as an aircraft maintenance technician and flight engineer at several air force bases in England and in the United States, retiring in 1992 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. During the Vietnam War he was stationed at Phan Rang Air Base in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, and was a recipient of the National Defense service medal, the Air Force Good Conduct medal with one oak leaf cluster, and the Air Force Longevity service award.
He was an avid gun collector, and enjoyed participating in Civil War reenactments.
Survivors include three brothers, Robert E. Simmons and his wife Karen and Edward A. Simmons and his wife Robin, all of New Bedford, and Russell A. Simmons and his wife Terry of Huntersville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
