Obituary

Ellis Leroy Green was born on December 12, 1953 in Blytheville, Arkansas and gained his “Heavenly Wings” on September 12, 2021 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California. Ellis is currently resting at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura, CA.

Ellis accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized at Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville, Arkansas.

Ellis was husband to Susanne N. Munandi Green and loving father to Ellis L. Green II, Erris L. Green, and Joel Shema Munandi Green.
He was the 5th born child to the late L.C. and Ernestine Green. He is preceded in death by his sisters Margaret Phifer and Gwendolyn Bradford. Brother to L.C. Green (Shirley), Sherry Green (Reggie), and Barbara Smith (Darrel). Son-in-law to Brigadier Gen. (ret.) Joel and Rose Munandi, and brother-in-law to Isabel K. Munandi, and Peter and Fridah Munandi.

Nephew to Dr. Carolyn Green, Rosmin Sidi, Phoebe Nduku, Lawrence Nduttu amongst others. Uncle to Michelle, Tina, LaTisha, Pristeen, John Jr, Jeaunisha, Sheila Mueni Munandi amongst others. A very dear and special friend to Patricia Burton – Green, Noe Numa, Daniel Savage, Lawrence (Sonny) Holland, Elizabeth William and Doug Temple, Rose and Bruce Robison, Murray Rosenbluth, Elizabeth S. Garcia, Allan and Angela Timmons, Ricky Perez, Hugo Garcia.

Ellis was a Vietnam-era veteran having served in the United States Navy from 1972 stationed in Maryland, Tennessee, California and Guam. Honorably discharged in 1976 and he decided to settle in California residing in Long Beach, Moorpark, and Ventura before finally settling in Port Hueneme.

Between 2012 and 2015, Ellis served as a Council Member and Mayor of the City of Port Hueneme, CA. Until his retirement in 2015, Ellis worked for the City of San Buenaventura, CA as the Risk Manager. He also worked for the County of Ventura, and GTE. Ellis was also involved in community services and activities such as School Site Council Member at Christa McAuliffe Elementary School, Oxnard and spent plenty of time at the Cornucopia Community Garden in Ventura, CA. Ellis loved to support the less privileged. In his last visit to Kenya, he visited a children's play yard and pledged to support in rehabilitation and make it safer for the children.

Ellis loved to travel, explore and learn about different parts of the world. He made various tours independently and through the People to People Citizen Ambassador Programs. His international travels include visits to China, Kenya, Rwanda,Tanzania, and the United Arab Emirates.

Ellis is an alumni of Pepperdine University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Management in 1983. He attended Harrison High (1972) and Blytheville High Schools (Ar.)

Monday, October 4, 2021 – 5.00pm – Tribute by the City of Port Hueneme at Council meeting at 250 N. Ventura Rd, Port Hueneme, CA 93041

Tuesday, October 5, 2021 – 1.15pm – Burial at The Riverside National Cemetery - 22495 Van Buren Blvd. - Riverside, CA 92508
