Ed Greenwalt, 79, died in his home on September 19, 2021 after an extended illness.
Ed was born on April 8, 1942 in Anderson. He attended Roosevelt School before graduating from Madison Heights High School in 1960 and from Indiana University in 1964. He received his Masters Degree from Ball State University.
Ed was an elementary school teacher in Tipton before teaching in Anderson Community Schools for 36 years and coaching 5th and 6th grade boys’ football, basketball, and track.
He served as the Anderson Federation of Teachers’ Vice-President for elementary issues for many years. In addition, he worked at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service while in high school and for 18 years after retiring from teaching.
Ed attended Park Place Church of God, was a previous member of the Mounds Kiwanis Club and the City Human Rights Commission and served on the board of Operation Love Ministries.
An avid reader, Ed particularly enjoyed reading about history and government. He was an enthusiastic sports fan and enjoyed many years of golfing with his friends.
Ed is survived by his wife of 37 years, Carole (Pistole); daughter, Mandy Greenwalt and her husband, Calvin, of Austin, Texas; son, Todd Bagwell and his wife, Heidi, of Bargersville; son, Mark Bagwell, and his wife, Amanda, of Granger; and daughter-in-law, Amy Greenwalt of Buckeye, Arizona.; his brother, Gary Greenwalt, of Alexandria; and six grandchildren: McKenzie Negrete; William, Evelyn, Colette, Annie, and Brooks Bagwell; along with many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Hearld and Donna Greenwalt, his son, Jeffrey Greenwalt, and his nephew, Christopher Pistole.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 4 p.m. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Pastor Jonathan Grubbs officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. the service of day.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson Education Foundation, the Pistole Family Endowed Scholarship at Anderson University, or the charity of your choice.
