Obituary

John M. “Jack” Goodhue, III, U.S.C.G. Ret., 66, of Ponte Vedra, Florida passed away Friday September 10, 2021 after a brief illness. He was the husband of JoAnn (Lentz) Goodhue.

Jack was a 1973 graduate of Fairhaven High School. He later graduated from Regis College in Colorado. In 1979, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served 33 years of active duty until his retirement in 2012 as a Command Master Chief. He and his wife Jan have lived in Ponte Vedra for the past eight years where he coached the Nocatee Swim Team, taught swimming lessons, and worked as a pool manager. In his younger years, he was an Eagle Scout, received the Order of the Arrow, and was a counselor at Camp Cachalot.

In addition to his wife Jan, he is survived by his children, Jacqueline Goodhue Myers and her husband David, and Michael J. Goodhue; his grandchildren, Trent and Mackenzie Myers; three siblings, his twin Marie Goodhue, Elizabeth Goodhue, and Paul Goodhue; his mother-in-law, Dolores Lentz; and his nieces and nephews, Mary Lou Krosschell, Rylie Baumgardner, Seth Baumgardner, Matthew Kirkwood, Erin K. Nauman, Katie Kirkwood, Andrew Kirkwood, Rebecca H. Kunos, Elizabeth Haley, Kerri Goodhue Farland, and Sarah Goodhue Ledoux; and three grandnieces and nephew.

He was predeceased by his daughter Christine E. Goodhue, his parents, John M. Goodhue, Jr. and Elizabeth (Roman) Goodhue, and his father-in-law, Joseph Lentz.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday September 22, 2021 at 11 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mount Pleasant St., New Bedford. Burial with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday September 21, 2021 from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
