Obituary

Charles William Horton, Jr 1953 - 2021
It is with full and loving hearts that we announce the passing of Charles “Chuck” William Horton, Jr. Our Dad, Grandpa, mentor, and friend was called home by His Father on September 11, 2021, at the age of 68.
Chuck was born August 15, 1953, in Ventura, Ca. One of two children born to Viola and Charles Horton, Sr. He spent most of his childhood riding bikes, going to the beach, and bowling in Ventura with his brother, Kevin. The rest of their time was spent visiting with their Aunt Rosemary in Oxnard.
He graduated from Ventura High School in 1971 and Ventura College in 1979. He would later receive his bachelor’s degree in 2011 and then graduate with his Masters from the University of La Verne in 2014 with a focus on Human Resources.
Chuck met his former wife, Patricia Little, at Wagon Wheel Bowl, they married, and raised two sons, Charlie and Patrick. He enjoyed camping with his boys, often spending time at Lake Casitas. He also spent most of his time off taking them to bowling tournaments all over the United States. He volunteered his time as the Youth Director for Wagon Wheel Bowl, was the assistant coach on numerous youth baseball teams, and served on adult and youth boards for the Ventura County Bowling Associations.
Chuck enjoyed different jobs over the years. He shared stories from earlier days at Straw Hat, Bank of A Levy, and Aames Home Loans. He loved to share his bowling knowledge with others. This was evident in the many jobs he held as an owner and employee of various pro-shops around Ventura County. More recently he looked forward to retiring from the Department of the Navy at Pt. Mugu Base.
Chuck met “his lady”, Candi Elliot, at the bowling alley. They enjoyed spending their time traveling and sightseeing on their way to visit children and grandchildren. Often watching the grandkids play youth sports and perform in dance recitals and talent shows. They frequented Disneyland for people watching and the food.
Chuck’s love of bowling carries on in his children and grandchildren. Some of his proudest moments came from watching them and their bowling achievements. He was always a first phone call when new milestones were reached. One of our favorite moments was when he was awarded the 25 Year Participation Award from the USBC Open Championships in Reno, Nevada.
We will remember him whenever we hear the Beach Boys, see a classic car, or go to the beach. We will remember him whenever we watch The Natural, Field of Dreams, or a L.A. Dodgers baseball game. We will always remember his sense of humor, his big hugs, his kind eyes, and his from the belly chuckle. We will remember him most for his love of God, country, and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Horton, Sr. and Viola Horton, and brother, Kevin Horton.
Chuck's life is celebrated by his loving sons, Charlie Horton (Sarah) of Simi Valley, Patrick Horton of Oxnard, grandchildren, Ariana, Jacob, Brendon, Marcus, and Ethan, former wife, Patricia Little of Oxnard, his partner, Candi Elliot of Oxnard, and many others who considered him family and friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Surfrider Foundation, Ventura County, would be appreciated.
