Jerry Allen Miner, 53, died at his home on September 13th. Born May 26, 1968 to Alfred Senior and Shirley Miner. Jerry was a graduate of Stonington High School and went on to serve in the US Marine Corps. Upon his Honorable Discharge, Jerry returned to Stonington where he raised his family and spent 18 years employed by the Davis Standard Company.
Jerry’s painful struggle with mental health and alcohol addiction meant losing the things he most valued. He loved his family and the outdoors. In his best years, Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He found joy in sharing that with his children. His father, Alfred Senior, was his hero. As a father, Jerry pushed his own children to strive for the same excellence and integrity of character that he most admired in his own father. In his last weeks, Jerry spoke to his daughter with candor and regret about the sorrow his illness wreaked upon his family. Throughout his life, he always maintained that his children were his greatest achievement.
Jerry is survived by his two children Jake and Christine Miner; son-in-Law Ryan Brabrand; grandson Robin Brabrand; former wife Abbie Miner; siblings Doug, Alfred, Cindy, and Edward; and beloved friends Susan and James Norman. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Carol Romagna.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Saturday, September 25th from 12 to 1 pm to be immediately followed by Military Honors at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Semper Fi Fund (semperfifund.org) or A Promise to Jordan (www.apromisetojordan.org). Jerry’s children have selected these organizations in hopes that in their father’s untimely passing; healing, peace and reunification may be still possible for another family.
