Margaret S. (Coakley) Giorgio, 74, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, September 17th in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Known to her family and friends as “Peg,” she was born in Worcester, daughter of the late Timothy and Mary (Sheard) Coakley. Peg was a long-time resident of Oxford before recently moving back to her hometown of Worcester. She was a member of Sacred Heart – St. Catherine of Sweden Parish.
She leaves her husband of 44 years, Robert Giorgio; her children, Lori Allen and her husband, Bruce of Sandwich, Michael Sampson and his wife, Amy of Woodstock, CT and Thomas Giorgio of Worcester; her two grandchildren: Noah and Ellary Sampson, to whom she was known affectionately as “Nonni”. Peg also leaves a brother, George Coakley, and his wife, Mary of Little River, SC; sister-in-law June Wilder of Shrewsbury and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by two brothers, Timothy and Arthur Coakley, and her very close friend and sister-in-law Debby Coakley.
Peg graduated from North High School in 1965 and worked for years in the hotel industry before retiring from the Reliant Medical records department. During her retirement years, Peg was very active with crafts, mainly with fabric and sewing. She especially enjoyed making doll clothes for her granddaughter Ellary. Peg was an excellent cook and quick to share “Peggy G’s famous recipes” with her family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be remembered as a generous and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Funeral services and burial will be private in St. John’s Cemetery. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
