WORCESTER____Helen Catherine Matukevitch, 80, passed from this life on September 11, 2021 at UMass Memorial after several months of declining health.
Helen was born to John and Anna (Pavilionis) Matukevitch. She lived in Worcester most of her life. After graduating from Commerce High School in 1958, Helen worked as a Law secretary for the Law firm of Tashjian, Simsarian, and Wickstrom in Worcester, MA until her retirement. She chose an early retirement to enjoy traveling with her mother and great-niece, Sonya Campbell on many cruises and bus trips. Helen also enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod with her niece, Chris, great-niece Sonya, and her mother. She even went white-water rafting with her sister, Mary. Helen was a kindhearted, generous person who gave to many charities in her life.
Helen will be remembered, by some, as an inspiration for sobriety as she spent 40 plus years in recovery helping others as she worked the program.
She is predeceased by her mother, Anna Defeudis, her Step-father, Francis Defeudis, her great-niece, Sonya Campbell and brother-in-law, J. Howard Nugent.
Helen leaves behind her sister, Mary A. Nugent, her niece Christina Oldenburg and husband, Randy, her nephew Keith Nugent and wife, Jill and her great niece and great nephew, Elizabeth Nugent and Mitchell Nugent.
The family is respecting Helen’s wishes by not having a funeral service. Dirsa & Morin Funeral home are handling her cremation. Though Helen was a private person she was an important part of her community and family and will be deeply missed. Those who knew Helen are encouraged to do an act of kindness in her memory.
