Marie E. “Betty” Maloney
Longtime Tewksbury Resident
TEWKSBURY: Marie E. “Betty” (Buttner) Maloney, age 93, a resident of Tewksbury for over 60 years, a longtime active member of the Tewksbury Senior Center and former Tewksbury Poll worker, passed away at the Palm Center in Chelmsford on Monday, September 13, 2021.
She was the beloved wife of Albert J. Maloney, Jr., who passed away in 1983.
Born in Somerville on October 8, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Albert H. Buttner and the late Freida (Sutter) Buttner.
Betty was raised in Somerville, attended Somerville schools and graduated from Somerville High School.
In 1954, she and her late husband moved to Tewksbury, where they raised their family.
Betty was a communicant of St. Williams Church and was a former member of the Ladies Sodality.
She worked several years as a cafeteria assistant at the Heath Brook School and later as an Administrator for the Internal Revenue Service in Andover until her retirement.
During retirement, she volunteered her time reading to the children at the Heath Brook School.
Betty enjoyed knitting, crotchet and quilting, and made numerous lap blankets for the patients at Tewksbury Hospital as well as quilts for her grandchildren. In addition, she enjoyed visiting Foxwoods Resort & Casino and playing bingo.
Betty is the mother of Stephen A. Maloney and his wife Donna of Stoneham, Barbara M. Maloney of Tewksbury and her significant other, Paul O’Brien, and the late Richard E. Maloney. She leaves four grandchildren, Alicia Vanaria, Christopher, Jonathan and Heather Maloney: three great grandchildren, Ethan Richard Maloney, Logan Charles Vanaria and Alice Ann Maloney.
She was the grandmother the late Ann Marie and sister of the late Theodore Buttner.
Calling hours are Sunday, Sept. 19, from 5-7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty’s memory may be made to Friends of the Elderly and mailed to the Tewksbury Senior Center, 175 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
