New Bedford – Alda Maria do Rego Miguel, 95 of New Bedford, passed away Friday, September 10, 2021 peacefully at St Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late João Miguel.
Alda was born in São Miguel, Açores to the late José da Gloria do Rego and Maria Santo Cristo Andrade. She worked as a seamstress at Cherry Gail Factory in New Bedford when she moved to the United States with her family in 1966.
She was a dedicated and loving mother to her late children Milena Botelho and living son-in-law Manuel Pacheco Botelho, José Manuel Miguel and surviving children, son João Cesar Miguel, daughter Lucia Miguel-Botelho and wife of late son-in-law Luis Botelho; grandchildren Dr Emanuel Botelho, Derek Miguel, Ryan Miguel, Nicole Botelho, Monique Botelho, late Jonathan Miguel and Natasha Botelho; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Madison, Benjamin, Anthony, Hunter, Jacob, Caleb and Noah.
She is predeceased by her brother, Humberto do Rego and his living wife Maria do Rego.
Alda was best known for her Portuguese cooking and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved to watch The Golden Girls and wrestling. She had also been a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Alda’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
