Gerald Ray Maloney, 83, a longtime resident of Ventura, passed away on Thursday September 9th, 2021, from COVID pneumonia. Our family is devastated by this tremendous loss. However, in our faith, we find comfort knowing without a shadow of a doubt that “Pops” was reunited with his beloved Kay, and in the arms our loving Heavenly Father. Gerald was a force of nature and a rainbow chaser. He was a servant at heart and helped all in need, he was willing and able to answer the call to serve wherever and whenever he was needed. He never met a stranger he didn’t know.
Gerald was born on July 15, 1938, in Niagara Falls, New York. He was raised by his mother and stepfather. He was the oldest of eight children. Joanne, David, Bill, Pete, Rebecca, Jessie, Brian. As a little boy he was fascinated by structural steel workers. After his service in the Korean war, he pursued an apprenticeship in the local New York ironworker’s union.
His passion and trade led him out to the big boom in Vegas then out to Century City in downtown Los Angeles where he met his sweetheart, Kay. Soon after they were married and in 1971 Ryan came into their lives. They were married for nearly forty years when in 2008 Kay passed away of a long battle with cancer.
He is an endowed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he has served in many callings over the years. Emergency preparedness, institute instructor, ward missionary, building maintenance supervisor high priest group leader, scoutmaster and many other responsibilities over the years.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife and eternal companion Kay and his brother David.
He is survived by his beloved son and daughter in law Ryan and Jody. Grandchildren; Danielle, Richard, Brandon, Victoria (Andrew), Brigham, Obadiah, Gabriel and Deaglan. Great-grandchildren.
