On Sept. 7, 2021, George J. Luchansky, 93, was welcomed into the paradise of heaven. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving son, Andrew, and his niece, Linda.
Born in Olyphant on April 5, 1928, son of the late Andrew and Helen Messick Luchansky, George was a graduate of Olyphant High School and pursued a degree in aeronautical engineering before enlisting in the United States Air Force.
He was a member of the 527th fighter bomber squadron where he traveled the world. George was a veteran of the USAF and served in the Korean War. After returning home, he began his lifelong career as an architectural land and mining surveyor. He was employed by Robert Bell and John Hennemuth Associates, (both land and mining surveyors) until his retirement. George was a lifelong member of the Olyphant American Legion Post 327. George was also on the Olyphant Planning Commission and a mining and surveying advisor for many years.
George will be immensely missed by his loving and devoted son, Andrew. George was a devoted and loving husband and father. His love for his wife, Julia, who he was inseparable from, was unconditional.
George was well known by all who knew him for his helpfulness and friendship. He always put others first. He was a master carpenter and tradesman who built three complete homes in his lifetime, including his current residence.
George was a truly devoted Catholic and spiritual member of Holy Ghost Parish, now Holy Cross. He was very involved in church Masses and functions, including becoming a Eucharistic minister.
George was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia; his sister, Rosemary; brothers, Elmer, John and Thomas; and nephews, Thomas Jr. and Mark. He is survived by his son, Andrew and several nieces and nephews.
