Obituary

ANDERSON--Gail Milburn Brant passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021.

She was born August 7, 1922, to Cyrus and Bessie Milburn of Lapel, Indiana, and raised in a family of 10 children. She graduated from Lapel High School in 1940.

She married Edward Brant on Dec. 5, 1942 and raised three children while working as a Public Accountant in the offices of Brant and Brant Accounting, and as the owner of Gail Brant Real Estate.

She became the oldest graduate of Anderson University at the age of 87 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors in English and was invited to speak at the university’s weekly chapel. Her writing credits include publication in Literary Arts Magazine, Signatures, and her Methodist Church newsletter. In 2011, she was selected as the Senior Poet Laureate of Indiana. She was a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda, Sigma Tau Delta, Alpha Chi Honor Society, Sigma Chapter, Sigma Beta Sorority, Anderson First United Methodist Church, National and State Federation of Poetry Society, Friends of the Library, and Senior Euchre Club.

She is survived by her children, Diana Smith, Kathleen Kean and Donald "DB" Brant (Marla), five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Lewis and Maxine Leslie (Chuck), sister-in-law, Martha Milburn, and several nieces and nephews.

Gail was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Charles, DeLoss, Lloyd, Dennis, and sisters Garnet, Carolyn Jo, and Charlotte.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Friday, September 17, 2021 at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Don Deena Johnson officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson. Visitation will be 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, September 16, at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service and two hours before the funeral on Friday at the church.

The family would like to thank Community Hospital, Edgewater Woods, and Beaumont Health Care for their care and support.
