Irene C. “Cookie” (Benoit) Hawes, 77, of Stoughton passed away Tuesday September 7, 2021 after a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Jean Henri and Irene (Riley) Benoit, she lived in New Bedford for many years, before moving to Wareham, Attleboro, and later Stoughton.
Cookie was formerly employed as a personal care attendant for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until her retirement. She dedicated her career to helping clients with special needs. She had also been a van driver for Tremblay Bus Company.
Cookie was a good friend to many people and loved by everyone. She made new friends wherever she went. She enjoyed playing the violin.
She is survived by her son, Andrew Hawes; her siblings, Louise Motta, Linda Benoit, Janice Hebert, and Eugene Benoit; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Diane Alexander.
Her Memorial Service will be held on Friday Sept. 17, 2021 at 12 Noon at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, with visitation prior beginning at 11 AM.
