Betty Borjeson Fabian of Dartmouth, MA passed away peacefully at her home on Monday August 23, 2021, with her daughter, Jennifer by her side. Betty was the widow of Michael Fabian and is survived by their sons, David of NJ, Jack of NJ and their daughter Jennifer DePalma of Vermont, their spouses, children and grandchildren. She also leaves her brother, Ralph Borjeson and his wife Susan of Florida.
Betty received her Bachelor of Science degree from Hartford Hospital for Women in Hartford, CT. She continued her five-year course of study at Harford Hospital School of Nursing and Hartford College for Women. She was licensed to practice as an RN in Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut.
Betty was 86 years old, and a nurse throughout her entire adult life. Most recently she was an early partner of the Community Nurse Association, then on staff as a visiting nurse. Betty was a champion for their program. As a licensed CPR Instructor for the American Heart Association, she served the South Coast area, teaching CPR at schools, clinics and physicians’ offices.
Betty was honored to volunteered as the nurse and later as a reading partner for students at Our Sisters' School in New Bedford, MA. She loved the staff and reading with the students. She also was proud to volunteer at The Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum where she volunteered in the Museum, acted in the Murder Mystery and even played a ghost in a “spooky” tour that was filmed.
Betty lived for many years in Weston, CT. She served as Charge Nurse and Acting Evening Supervisor at the Waveny Care Center in New Canaan, CT; Middle School Nurse of Wilton, CT and the Saxe Middle School in New Canaan CT and was well known at the Avery Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology in Westport, CT.
In addition to all else, she served for 11 years as EMT for Weston Volunteer Emergency Services. Friends and family who rode with her when she was driving her own vehicles, often jokingly reminded her she was not at that moment driving an ambulance. She served her communities with passion volunteering as a Scout Leader for the Boy Scouts for both Dave and Jack as well as in the Weston Public Schools.
A lover of animals, wine connoisseur, avid reader and great friend to many, she will be deeply missed.
Services for the family only will be private, from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals in New Bedford, MA. Betty wanted a celebratory remembrance of life gathering of friends and colleagues. Due to pandemic restrictions, a later date for that gathering is necessary. It was the Hospice Care of the Community Nurse Home Care (CNHC) that the family turned to during the sudden decline in health. The family wish to express their admiration and gratitude to this dedicated team.
In lieu of flowers to the home, the family invites donations to be made to Community Nurse Home Care, 62 Center St., Fairhaven, MA 02719 or Our Sisters’ School, 145 Brownell Ave., New Bedford, MA 02740. For online condolence book, please visit www.saundersdwyer.com.
