Margie Ross Hunter Swanson, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, September 6, 2021, at her residence.
Graveside services will be held 4 PM, Friday, September 10, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with the Rev. Blane Jacobs officiating.
Mrs. Swanson was born November 9, 1942, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Robert Asa & Jewel Ashley Ross. She was a 1961 graduate of Irwin County High School. She received her beauty training under Irene Ware in Tifton and owned and operated Margie’s Salon in Ocilla. She worked in customer service at First State Bank and later Planters First and Colony Bank. She loved to read, especially cookbooks, and enjoyed cooking Sunday lunch for her family. An avid Purple Hurricane fan, Mrs. Swanson held season tickets for many years and enjoyed listening to Friday night Football when she could no longer attend games in person. She was a member of the DMC Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed working as a Pink Lady. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday school class.
She is survived by her daughters: Shelia & Dover Bishop of Fitzgerald and Sharon Beall of Fitzgerald; an honorary daughter, Connie & Steve Tucker of Tifton; grandchildren: Courtnie & Dwain Parrish, Beth & Dallas Rodgers, Ashley & Justin Coleman, Joseph Bishop and Zack Tucker; great-grandchildren: Emily Parrish, Kade Parrish, Brodie Coleman, Autumn Coleman, Quinn Parrish, Raylee Rodgers and Kendall AsaMarie Coleman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Swanson as well as seven brothers and sisters.
The family wishes to recognize and acknowledge the compassionate care given to Mrs. Swanson by her dedicated caregivers and to Thank them for their service: Sheila Horne, Shena Wilcox, Minnie Shelton, Teresa Battle, Debra Paschal, Jackie Barnes, Wendy Lofton, Martela Walker, and Mae Wilcox.
