Obituary

Wanda Bonneda (Boyer) Hazen, 87, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2021, in her home with family by her side. She was born December 14, 1933, in New Castle, PA. She met her future husband, Robert L. Hazen, Sr. at a church event after his return from the Korean War. They were married September 25, 1953.
The couple moved from western PA with their firstborn to Anderson, IN in 1955 where Bob would attend Anderson College. During those first years Wanda worked for the Gospel Trumpet and created a home in their trailer park on the AC campus before moving to their permanent home at 2615 Fowler Street in 1959.
Living one block away from East Side Church of God, Bob and Wanda became extremely active in multiple ministries at the church. Wanda’s teenage love of piano playing continued as she played for church services and as an accompanist for several trios and quartets. Wanda also taught Sunday School, directed children’s choirs and Vacation Bible school bringing her love of music, organizational skills, and creativity to full expression as she served faithfully.
For a few years, Bob and Wanda joined several other East Side families in starting a new church in Chesterfield known then as Linden Lane Church of God, now Chesterfield Community Church. Wanda was involved with all aspects of music ministry.
While her children were in high school, Wanda went back to work parttime primarily as a book-keeper. She then worked fulltime for 22 years for J.C. Hoover & Associates before retiring in 1998.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Grant Arlo and Loretta Boyer; her husband, Robert L. Hazen, Sr; and two sisters Mabel Rogan and Marjorie (Donahue) Roberts.
Surviving family members include, one sister and two brothers, Gwendolyn (Paul) Hanson of Lake Alfred, Florida, Gerald (Joyce) Boyer, Sr of Medina, Ohio and John (Karen) Boyer of Burghill, Ohio; four children, Robert (Mary Mathis) Hazen, Jr., of Anderson, Joyce Hazen of Anderson, Jim (Jodi Dixon) Hazen of Anderson, and David (Kathleen Bolt) Hazen of Columbia City; ten grandchildren, Kyle Hazen, Kendra (Mark) Barnes-Hazen, Keegan (Kristen) Hazen, Ashley Hazen, Jeremy (Kalah) Hazen, Darby Hazen, Korinne Hazen, Gabrielle Hazen, Brachen (Jayla) Hazen and Parker Hazen; and two great-granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Barnes and Hallie Hazen.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 12:00pm at East Side Church of God 2600 E. 5th Street, Anderson, IN. Visitation will precede the service from 10 to 11:45 am. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery. For those unable to attend, you may watch online at es.church/livestream.
