Obituary

Lorraine Hoyle Lewis died at her home on Sunday, September 5th at the age of 96. She was lovingly taken care of by Livingston Hospice, her daughters and son-in-law. Lorraine was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was born on August 15, 1925 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Charles and Amelda Hoyle. She was the youngest of 3 children, adored by her parents and 2 older brothers, Charles and William. Her family later moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where Lorraine attended and graduated from High School. She attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated with both a Bachelor’s degree and a Masters of Science in Geology. She moved to Billings, Montana to work for Pure Oil as a geologist in 1950. While in Billings, she met and married the love of her life, Arthur Lewis Jr. in 1953. They were a handsome looking couple often compared to Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The young couple moved to Denver, Colorado in 1955 where their 3 children were born over the next 5 years. Subsequently the family moved to Roswell, New Mexico when Art was transferred by Union Oil as a land manager. While in New Mexico, Lorraine went back to college and received a teaching certificate, working as a substitute teacher. In 1968 the family moved to Placentia, California when Art was transferred to the UnoCal 76 Research Center in Brea, California. After their children graduated from High School, Art and Lorraine made their final move to Ventura, California in 1977.
Lorraine and Art were actively involved in their local church, leading Cursillo and weekly Bible studies in their home for over 35 years. Lorraine also volunteered with Family to Family serving meals to the homeless. She assisted Art in providing free tax assistance through AARP. Lorraine was a long-time member of both Christian Women’s Club and Women’s Aglow serving on the local area boards. She also volunteered with FISH, a Christian neighbor helping neighbor organization. One of her greatest joys in life was sharing her belief in Jesus with others. She loved reading the Bible and Christian books both fiction and non-fiction. She had a strong, unwavering faith in the ability of God to overcome every situation. Later in life she enjoyed watching TBN and the Victory Channel.
Lorraine had many interests she enjoyed including: gardening; sewing; painting; cooking; playing hymns on her organ and piano; and traveling the world with her husband. She took cake decorating and cooking classes becoming a gourmet cook who loved entertaining and hosting dinner parties.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Art in 2015. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Anne Lewis; Janet and Jim Toscano and Art and Astrid Lewis. She also had five wonderful grandchildren: Matt and David Toscano; and Cameron, Jordan and Isabelle Lewis that she adored.
We do not grieve as those who have no hope but believe we will be reunited with her in Heaven with Jesus (1 Thess. 4:13-14). Funeral services for Lorraine will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 12Noon at Connect Church, 346 North Kimball Road, Ventura, Ca. A Celebration of her life will be held following the service at the church. All are invited to attend and celebrate the life of this special woman of God.
