Walter J. Black, 68

Dateline: Norton, MA

Walter J. Black, age 68, of Norton, formerly of Mansfield and Foxboro, passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Aurore D. (Chartier) Black, to whom he was wed on October 8, 1977.

Born in Hartford, CT on June 16, 1953, he was a loving son of the late Howard G., Sr. and Doris L. (Allen) Black.

Walter grew up in Foxboro and was a graduate of Foxboro High School. Prior to retiring, he had worked at South Shore Millwork in Norton and had previously been employed, for over forty years, as an artisan at the Sears & Roebuck Co. in Providence

A resident of Norton since 1984, Walter had formerly made his home in Mansfield. Walter loved spending time with his adoring family and was a longtime gun enthusiast. He was a lifetime member and instructor for the National Rifle Association. He was also a member of the Mansfield Fish & Game Club, the Angle Tree Stone Rod & Gun Club, enjoyed target shooting and was a member of the “Cowboy Shoots” associated with many area guns clubs.

Walter also had a special interest in genealogy. He enjoyed tracing his family history, which included finding that his 7th great grandfather was William Wetherell, who founded the Town of Norton in 1711. Walter also discovered that his family was a member of the Wing Fort House on Cape Cod, located in East Sandwich.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children: Daniel Buck and his companion Tricia Anderson of Norton and Dawna Kelly and her husband Michael of Norton. He was the dear brother of Howard Black, Jr. and his wife Sharlene of Maine, Sharon Black of New Hampshire and the late Sandra Robinson and Cheryl Black. He was the loving grandfather of Christopher Buck, Crystal Buck, Marc Brouwer and his wife Kristin, Mercedes Vassalotti and Rene Murad, the great grandfather of Caiden Buck, Aidriana Batista, Kevin Brouwer, Ely Brouwer, Richard Brouwer and the uncle of Terri Ballou, Adam Wood, Eric Wood, Scott Black and Nicole Black.

A service in celebration of Walter’s life will be held at later date and place to be announced. Visiting hours are omitted.
