Phyllis “Grandmother” (Lyden) Hartry 89, of East Bridgewater died on Wednesday, September 1 at the Bridgewater Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was wife to the late John T. Hartry Jr. for 56 years.
Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1932, Phyllis graduated from Weymouth High School and spent 35 years as a switchboard operator at Brockton Hospital.
Phyllis loved raising and training her dogs and passing that knowledge onto her family over the years. Along with her gardening and sewing skills, she enjoyed restoring her dolls, building dollhouses with her late husband, and traveling.
Phyllis is predeceased by her daughter Elaine (Hartry) Sullivan of East Bridgewater, grandsons Robert Smith of Suffolk, VA and Christopher Hartry of Gastonia, NC; 4 brothers and a sister.
Survived by her son Paul of Baltimore, MD and grandchildren, Sarah Thompson & her husband Andy of East Bridgewater; Andrew Sullivan of New York, NY; Jen Sullivan of Ocala, FL; Lena Hartry of Virginia Beach, VA; and Randy Hartry of Norfolk, VA. Along with her great-grandchildren Abby, Meaghan & Eva Thompson and 8 other great-grandchildren.
All are invited to attend her visiting hours on Saturday September 11 from 10:00-11:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58@the rotary) Whitman.
