TAUNTON - Francis A. Guay, age 94, passed away at Boston Medical Center on Tuesday,
August 31, 2021. He was the beloved husband of 51years to Frances N. (Papazoni) Guay.
Francis was born in Taunton on January 12, 1927 to the late Alice (Lemieux) and Laureat Guay.
After four years of active duty, he was honorably discharged from the US Army. He returned
home to complete his high school education and graduated from Taunton High School in 1949.
He continued on to receive a bachelors degree from Providence College. He taught history
and government for twenty-nine years at Taunton High School. Throughout his life, Frank
volunteered for many organizations: Eastern Little League, Commissioner of the Taunton Parks
Department, driver for the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program, and manned
the Information Desk at Morton Hospital Medical Center.
Prayer was an important part of his life and he was a daily communicate at St. Andrew’s
Church. He was an avid reader and sports fan; if he did not have a book in his hand, he could
be found watching a game.
In addition to his loving wife Frances, he is survived by his three children, Michelle (Nicholas)
Varano, Lisa (Darin) Tietjen, and Charles Guay; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Tietjen, Lauren
Tietjen, Katelyn Tietjen, and Matthew Varano. He is also survived by his brother Maurice Guay
and his sister Yvette Buffone. In addition to his parents, Francis was predeceased by his two
sisters, Antonia Menard and Sr. Lucille Guay and three brothers, Donald, Norbert, and Gerald
Guay.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, September 6th
from 5:00-7:00pm. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street, Taunton.
A Memorial Mass for Francis will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, September 7th at St. Andrew
the Apostle Church, 19 Kilmer Avenue, Taunton. Burial with military honors will follow at St.
Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
